Searching
Every word in autoBOOK is indexed at its word
root. Why does this matter? This simplifies
searching for the user because a word or group of words can be
typed in any variation and the search engine will find all
variations of that word. For example, if the user types
"plastic piping", the search engine will also find plastic
pipes and plastic pipe. The results are the
same as if the "Boolean" wildcard logic of * and
?
was used. Our simplified approach to searching means
that you will be able to find information within minutes of
installing the product and need not worry that you will miss
information because you haven't used Boolean logic or typed in
every variation of a word.
By
typing words into the boxes on the search screen, you can find
a word; a word near another word; a phrase (more than
one word typed in one box will find an exact match of those
words); a phrase near another phrase; a table, a
section number, etc.
The
number of times your search criteria is found is displayed
immediately on the search screen so that you can narrow or
expand your search before navigating through your matches.
You
can also search just a specific area of the autoBOOK
product.
Matches
The words that match your search criteria are
highlighted in the text. You can move forward and
backward through your matches.
Hyperlinks
All cross-references within the text of the product
are linked together. Therefore, by clicking on a link
you will jump to that location in the text. The program
will keep track of your jumps (like a bookmark) so that you
can easily return to where you started.
Copy/Paste
Text can be copied by highlighting with your mouse and
clicking the copy button. The text is copied to the
WindowsTM clipboard and can
be pasted into any program on your computer. The
formatting of the text is retained which means that if you
copy a table, the table will be aligned properly when pasted.
Notes
You can create a note at any location in the
text. A sticky note icon will appear in the margin to
let you know that there is a note present. You can type
in the note box or paste information from the Windows
clipboard. Notes can be searched. They can be
shared with other users if you are running the autoBOOK
product on a network or stored on your local hard drive. Graphics/Illustrations/Formulas
Graphics, illustrations, and formulas are displayed
within the text. When you click on a graphic, the
program opens a graphic box which allows you to copy or print
the graphic. This box can also be used as a graphics
slide show. Pressing the next button displays the next
graphic in the product. Printing
Text can be printed by highlighting the text and
clicking the Print button.
